Meet the Artist

lets normalize.jpg

I started painting at the age of 26.  I was newly sober and needed a hobby to keep my hands and mind occupied.  I bought some cheap supplies from Walmart and spent most of my evenings experimenting with different paints and materials.  My first painting was of an awkward little tree on a 10”x12” canvas.  I knew it wasn’t very good, but I loved the feeling of creating something new. That was about 8 years ago, and my decision to not give up on my “silly art hobby” continues to be one of the best choices I’ve ever made.  I keep my first tree painting hanging in my studio, as a reminder to keep pushing forward.

I describe my art style as abstract fluid art.  I like to make large, vibrant and captivating paintings that resemble water and color in motion.  To create I need a level surface, acrylic paint, flow mediums, and silicone oil.  I also rely on music to help me unwind while I work.  The process is both relaxing and exhilarating.  I need sharp focus to make sure my actions are precise but also a clear mind so I don’t overthink.  My best work always comes from being able to let go of expectations and allow the paint to flow through me.

As a self-taught artist, I’m always looking for new ways to push myself and explore different styles and techniques.  What you see today may not be what you see in a year or two.  I always welcome commission requests as they are the best way to get me out of my comfort zone.  What motivates me more than anything is having the opportunity to display my work wherever it is welcome.  If you are interested in a commission or have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me via email or on social media.  I’d love to hear from you!

My artwork is my legacy, and it comforts me to think that it will be around long after I am gone.  It would be a privilege to have you be a part of that.
